Conversations at The Kreeger Museum
The Kreeger Museum is offering special music and art programs for individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and other dementia related illnesses on a monthly basis. Modeled after the successful and pioneering Meet Me at MoMA (Museum of Modern Art, NYC) program, Conversations at The Kreeger Museum provides a forum for dialogue and connection through looking at art and listening to music. The program is intended to stimulate conversation and memories for participants and to create a sense of well-being that can last beyond the tour. While here, Conversations visitors will have exclusive access to the museum’s world-class architecture, superb sculptures and paintings.
In addition, The Kreeger Museum is pleased to offer a unique inter-generational pilot program with Sweet Readers, Inc., a non-profit organization based in NYC. Sweet Readers brings local middle school students together with individuals in early stages of AD and their care providers to engage, explore, and connect with each other through an active examination of art, poetry, and music at the museum. More information about Sweet Readers may be found at www.sweetreaders.org.
The Kreeger is the first museum in Washington DC to develop and offer programs of this nature to this very special audience. It is well suited to create a positive and beneficial experience for AD patients and their caregivers.
