Thea Iberall
Thea Iberall has been called ‘a shimmering bridge between heart and mind.’ She is on the leadership team of the Jewish Climate Action Network. As head of the JCAN interfaith group, she works with other organizations such as the Green Sanctuary Committee of the First Parish UU Church Medfield, Massachusetts Interfaith Power & Light, and 350MA.org. Dr. Iberall is the author of The Swallow and the Nightingale http://www.swallownightingale.com. In this climate fiction novel, she uses today’s world of climate change as a backdrop to help awaken people, and she reminds us that the visions of Gandhi, religious mysticism, and Native Americans are a more sustainable solution than the patriarchal system under which we live. She has a Ph.D. from UMass, was on the research faculty at USC and studied climate change at Univ. British Columbia. Besides writing three scientific texts, she wrote We Did It For You! http://www.wediditforyou.org - a musical about how women got their rights in America. It was performed at the California Women’s Suffrage Centennial Celebration in 2011 and premiered in Massachusetts in 2017 on Women's Equality Day. Thea does play-reading workshops using this script at high schools, colleges, conferences, and women's organizations in order to educate and activate women and girls to participate in democracy. Thea and her family were inducted into the International Educators Hall of Fame in 2015 for their innovative teaching methods. www.theaiberall.com
