Envisioned by artist Theaster Gates, the Arts Incubator is a space for artist residencies, arts education, community-based arts projects, as well as exhibitions, performances, and talks. Arts + Public Life builds creative connections on Chicago’s South Side through artist residencies, arts education, and artist-led projects and events.
Unified Theater

Unified Theater dissolves typical barriers between youth through transformative, school based performing arts programming. At Unified Theater, young people with and without disabilities, of all backgrounds, come together as equals to put on a production. The production is entirely organized, written, and directed by the students themselves. In over sixty schools across the country over 6,000 students with and without disabilities have performed to almost 10,000 audience members. The concept is simple: let teens lead, let creativity rule, and put the Spotlight on Ability.

The program offers up to $2,500, and requires a $1:$1 match. Projects must occur in Lake, Orange, Osceola or Seminole counties in Florida. United Kids "Exposure"

United Kids was started in 2009 in Upstate NY by Eeinna Akers. In the beginning United Kids was United Girls, with 4 little girls. Within two weeks from the first meeting which met weekly at The Harriman United Methodist Church the program grew to 20 girls, and branched out by the end of the month to include United Boys, and United Teens.
University of Chicago's Arts + Public Life: Education Programs

Arts + Public Life's Education Department offers in-depth programs that cultivate local teens’ creative identity, social development, and leadership growth, while motivating them to make a positive difference in their community through the arts. Participants are paid to work alongside professionals to learn arts skills and collaborate to apply that arts learning through teen-driven projects that address real-world problems and create opportunities for peers and neighbors.

Urban Bush Women

Founded in 1984 by choreographer Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, Urban Bush Women (UBW) seeks to bring the untold and under-told histories and stories of disenfranchised people to light through dance. UBW does this from a woman-centered perspective and as members of the African Diaspora community in order to create a more equitable balance of power in the dance world and beyond. It facilitates the use of art as a means of addressing issues of social justice and encouraging civic engagement.
Urbano Fellows Program

The Urbano Fellows are an exemplary group of program alumni who have participated in Urbano’s programs for at least two semesters. Ten to fifteen Fellows meet year-round, serving as peer leaders. These youth artists work with a lead artist and McGregor to host events, research and conceptualize new ideas, and produce artwork, often in partnership with area organizations.

UTOPIA/dystopia

UTOPIA/dystopia project activities engaged both long standing and new area residents of Skid Row--including the homeless and formerly homeless, the working poor, immigrants and their families, and the area's burgeoning loft-living population--in performances, art installations, and public events to inform and broaden the public discourse on development in the city of Los Angeles. In recent years, civic policy in Los Angeles has generated the twin towers of utopia and dystopia: Bunker Hill, the redeveloped high rise financial center, and below it Skid Row.
V-Day
New York, NY
V-Day is a global activist movement to stop violence against women and girls. Once a year, in February, March, and April, playwright and activist Eve Ensler allows groups around the world to produce a performance of her play, The Vagina Monologues, as well as other works created by V-Day, and use the proceeds for local individual projects and programs that work to end violence against women and girls, often shelters and rape crisis centers.
